Commuting expenses (travel allowance)
Tick this box if you want to enter expenses for travel between your home and your primary place of work.
The travel allowance (Entfernungspauschale), commonly referred to as a commuting allowance (Pendlerpauschale), is a flat-rate allowance for the costs of travel between home and a regular place of work or - as it has been correctly stated since 2014 - the primary place of work.
All employees and self-employed persons can claim the flat-rate allowance, regardless of the amount of their actual expenses and regardless of whether they get to work on foot, by bicycle, motorbike, public transport or by car.
Important: The travel allowance significantly reduces your taxable income. The employee flat-rate amount of 1.000 Euro is already exceeded from a one-way distance of 15 kilometres to the workplace if you go to work on 230 days!
