At some point in every tax return, the moment comes: you’re looking at a field and you’re not quite sure what belongs in it. Until now that meant opening the help, searching the guides, maybe writing to support. From now on, you can simply ask. Kira is your AI tax assistant in SteuerGo. She sits right inside your tax return and answers your questions without you having to leave the page.
What is Kira?
Kira is an AI assistant that supports you with your tax return. You ask your question in your own words — about income-related expenses, the commuter allowance or a single input field — and you get an answer right there in the chat. The difference from a classic help page: you don’t need to know the name of the function you’re looking for. You just describe your problem.
How to open Kira in your user account
Via the icon menu at the top right
Click the Kira icon in the icon menu at the top right.
Via the Kira icon at the bottom right
Or click the Kira button at the bottom right. Both routes lead to the same chat.
The first time: confirm the privacy notice
The first time you open her, Kira shows you a privacy notice. Read the privacy policy and confirm your consent – after that you can type your question into the input field and send it. Not sure where to start? Kira suggests example questions. One click and you’ll see what an answer looks like.
What can you ask Kira?
Kira is at her best with general questions about your tax return and about using SteuerGo. For example:
- “Where do I enter my income-related expenses?”
- “What does this input page mean?”
- “Which receipts do I need?”
- “By when do I have to file my tax return?”
- “How do I save my entries?”
You don’t need to phrase things formally. Write the way you’d explain it to a colleague.
Kira thinks along: tax year and section
Kira takes into account, among other things, the tax year and the section you’re currently in. So if you’re at income-related expenses for 2025 and you ask “What can I enter here?”, Kira knows what “here” refers to. That saves you explaining the context and leaves you with the question you actually came with.
Current topics too: deadlines, laws, court rulings
Tax law changes. For current topics such as deadlines, legislative changes or case law, Kira can draw on verified information from the SteuerGo website. If she finds a matching guide or blog article, she shows you a direct link. So you can read up on where the answer comes from.
Why Kira sometimes asks back
Sometimes an important piece of information is missing for a reliable answer. In that case Kira asks a short follow-up question instead of guessing. That’s deliberate: a follow-up question is better than an answer built on a wrong assumption. If your question still can’t be answered reliably, Kira points you to customer service.
Compact or large – you decide
In the compact view, Kira opens at the bottom right and your tax return stays visible. So you can keep working while the chat is open. If you need more room, click the maximise icon at the top right of the Kira window. The minimise icon takes you back to the compact view. And when you don’t need Kira right now: close icon at the top right. You can bring her back any time via the Kira icon in the top menu or at the bottom right.
Finding earlier chats, starting fresh
In the compact Kira window you’ll find a three-dot menu at the top right. Under “Recent chats” you’ll find your saved conversations. One click and you’re back in. If you want to start from scratch, choose “New chat” in the same menu. Kira then won’t continue the previous conversation.
What Kira can’t do
So there are no misunderstandings:
- Kira can make mistakes. Always check important entries and suggestions yourself – especially before you file your tax return.
- Kira does not replace personal tax advice or binding information from the tax office. She cannot carry out a legally binding assessment of your individual case.
- And she cannot arrange a callback on a binding basis.
Just give it a try
The best way to get to know Kira is a real question. Open your tax return, click the Kira icon at the bottom right and ask about whatever you last got stuck on. That’s all it takes.
