In Germany, there are more than 600 tax offices in 16 federal states, over 500 of which process income tax returns. But how quickly are the submitted tax returns processed? This year we again evaluated the time required to process tax returns at the German tax offices. In the list of tax offices below, you will find the current processing time needed by your tax office, including a summary of our current survey and last year's results.

The state of Berlin currently has the fastest tax offices in Germany.

The federal state of Berlin currently has the fastest tax offices in Germany. This is according to our study on processing times at German tax offices. The tax offices in Berlin take an average of 46.3 days to process an income tax return. Hamburg is in second place with a processing time of 46.9 days. Saxony came in a close third this year with a processing time of 47.1 days. The federal state of Bremen is in last place this time. Here, the tax offices take an average of 74.3 days to issue a tax assessment.

Germany is looking for the fastest tax office

Germany's fastest tax office is from Bavaria. The tax office Zwiesel mit Außenstelle Viechtach takes an average of only 28.4 days to process a tax return. In second place is Lindau with 31.1 days. This time, the third place goes to the Bottrop tax office with 33.1 days.

The analysis is based on over one million anonymised tax returns created via SteuerGo.de. In total, the processing times of 482 tax offices that processed at least 50 tax returns were evaluated. You can find more details about the study results in our blog.
